Em Mai Chmiel (b. 2003) is a Vietnamese-American artist and writer currently based in Berlin, working on the editorial team at 032c. Her practice is primarily image-and language-based, often investigating femininity, self-authorship, and mediated intimacy.

Her debut photography series Unbaby was exhibited at The Bridge’s final 2024 showcase in New York. She holds a degree in Political Science and Visual Arts from Columbia University, and spent a semester abroad at Cambridge University, where her interdisciplinary studies culminated in a dissertation on artificial intelligence and the future of creative labor. Most recently, she created An Incomplete Gynecological History of Self (2025), a limited-edition artist’s book.

Em has previously worked at Interview Magazine, LEITZES&CO, TCG, the United States Senate, and more. She continues to freelance across photography, writing, and creative direction.
